How long do Meta and Google ads take to work?

Most accounts show first results in two to four weeks, but ‘working’ means different things in week two and month three. What to expect, and when to worry.

How long do paid ads take to work? Most accounts we take on show first results in two to four weeks. But the first month is mostly about fixing tracking and learning what your buyers respond to; the real gains usually come in months two and three, once the winners have budget behind them.

What happens when

  1. 01Week 1: we audit the account and fix tracking, so every result we read is real.
  2. 02Weeks 2–4: new campaigns and creative go live. Expect noisy numbers while the platforms learn.
  3. 03Month 2: losers are cut, winners get budget, and new creative tests what we learned.
  4. 04Month 3 onwards: steady improvement, and the confidence to scale spend.

Why the first weeks are noisy

Meta and Google both need conversions to learn who to show your ads to. Until a campaign has enough of them, results swing day to day. Changing everything every few days resets that learning, which is the most common reason new accounts look like they don’t work.

“Give a campaign a week before you judge it, and a clear number to judge it by.”

When to worry

  1. 01After a month you still can’t say what a lead or sale costs. That’s a tracking problem, not an ads problem.
  2. 02People click but don’t convert. Look at the landing page before the ads.
  3. 03Results were good and are now sliding with no other change. Your creative is probably tired.

With Woof Concept, new acquisition channels reached 5x return on ad spend within the first year, with nearly 4,000 new orders. None of that came from week one; it came from testing every week and moving budget behind what worked.

If you want a team to run this for you, see our paid ads work. If tracking is the gap, start with tracking and conversion.
